Kremlin Computers Fall Victim To Millennium Bug MOSCOW, Jan 13, 2000 -- (Agence France Presse) The Kremlin press office's computer communication system has been paralyzed by the millennium bug, a spokesman for the Russian presidency revealed Wednesday. "It is not possible to send E-mails from our press service because of the year 2000 bug problem. The problem should be sorted out by the end of the month," the spokesman told AFP. On January 1 many foreign observers said that Russia seemed to have escaped without any computer problems following the date changeover on January 1. Older computers working in two digit dates, unable to distinguish between 1900 and 2000, were feared to have been at risk of shutting down.
