[Just got back from dinner at City Lights, one of the few decent Chinese
places in DC. Unusual collection of people this time: Senate staff,
libertarian law profs and litigators, Justice Dept computer crime
prosecutor. Even more unusual endorsement on the menu: Recommended in 1998
by White House counsel's office. Guess they had a lot of late night
takeouts during that little scandal last year. --DBM]

OXFORD, England (Reuters) - Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch sealed his
conversion to the
Internet Wednesday, painting a picture of a bright technological future
hampered only by natural
disasters and -- worse still -- meddling governments.

He told Oxford University students in a lecture that the Internet was a
revolutionary liberator of the
individual that would sweep away rather than deepen social inequality and
meet all our needs.
