virtual switches

Are there any papers or studies about conducting pentesting in virtual
environments in regards to passing stealth (IDS or Firewall evading or
decoy) packets through a software switch such as found in VMware or xVM
products?

I am running some tests of my own but I'm interested to see what research
may already be out there.
