FYI, it catches this error when trying to compile on Ubuntu 8.10.
Googling around, it appears to be a bug with how open() is used within
the source.  I did not dive into uscniff source to determine if this
was the case.

/usr/include/bits/fcntl2.h:51: error: call to '__open_missing_mode'
declared with attribute error: open with O_CREAT in second argument
needs 3 arguments

You don't see the same error under BT3.
