Saying "NEVER" in the computer world is pretty dangerous. They've run a few tests/contests that are absolutely insane and blow WAY past 10 miles. Now, in the arena of pen-testing....I don't think 10 miles is a reasonable goal although, if I had a client on the side of a mountain and I could connect to their network from another mountain 10 miles away and penetrate their network, that would be a VERY good case for an attack that wouldn't arouse much suspicion about "odd characters" hanging around nearby;)
Speaking of mountains: http://www.unwiredadventures.com/unwire/2005/12/defcon_wifi_sho.html I guess there's an exception to every rule. Enormous geographic phenomena aside, you can't throw 10mi ground-to-ground because of the curvature of the Earth. No matter how kick-ass your antenna is. :) PaulM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This list is sponsored by: Cenzic Need to secure your web apps NOW?
