Pen-Testing FTP w/ Non-Interactive Login

I was wondering if there was a way to pen-test ftp daemons that do not allow for an interactive login. I believe the the clients are authenticated through stored PAM modules, but this is simply a guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
