One of the biggest differences between a hacker and a penetester is that pentest is a job and hacking is a personal hobby. For hacking, you have all the time and freedon, choose a weakness and drill all the way down, and we can focus on things which are technically interesting and explore new things. However for pentest, you have to work under contract limits such as time limit, scope limit etc.. And also your client's business interest is the first priority. In most cases, finding loopholes in targets' protection against known attacks is more important than exploring new techniques, On 26 Jul 2006 18:57:49 -0000, rahul.joshi2 () googlemail com <rahul.joshi2 () googlemail com> wrote:
Hi Guys, I am currently a Java developer but I'm seriously thinking of changing paths to a career in security and pen testing. What I would like to know is what is being a pen tester really like? I understand the functions a pen tester performs, but I would really love to hear what it is actually like on a day-to-day basis, on the coal face so to speak. What are the good things about the job, and what are the bad? Your experiences/advice would be hugely appreciated.
