Hi Jason, You have asked a really good question. I would like to answer it with a scenario, lets say, I go for an interview for the post of a security professional (in general), I would need to convey my skills to the persons there. If I tell them that I am a hacker, they would argue and may ask, "hack this box and prove it!". It may not be possible to hack the box kept in front of you in that interview. But, if you have a certification which is recognised by the industry then they would really think that you are a hacker with atleast basic skills which they wont argue. I knew about hacking before doing CEH certification, but the certificate is like a 'gate pass' if you dont have adequate experience in the field. You may have long stories to tell how you hacked some stuff but, interviews last only for few minutes, isnt it ? Shreyas Zare --- Jason Mayer <slamboy () gmail com> wrote:
As someone interested in getting the CEH certification, I was wondering what you studied to get that cert. Also, do you think that getting the cert was worthwhile? I am coding Technitium MACAddressChanger v4 which will have many more features than SMAC. Still, v4 will be FREE. Finally, changingMACaddress is basically changing a registry value.Payinganything like USD19.99 for software whicheffectivelychanges a registry key is stupidity as per myviews.Regarding the questions by which you are convinced...I have some answers: 1. Is your software opensource? Ans: No. No need to open source as it changes onlyaregistry key. Its a simple VB6 app. 2. Is your software going to stay free forever? Ans: Yes. Technitium MAC Address Changer will befreeforever. Is it pinching you? If yes, then probablyyouare from KLC Consulting. I have lot more softwaretorelease still ;) 3. Do you offer free technical support? Ans: No. If you want to change MAC address, proably, you know why you are doing so. Pen-testers and security professionals dont need tech support astheyare tech support! Any question about me? I am a IT student, havegoodhand in hacking stuff, a good programer, Certified Ethical Hacker by EC-Council, Cisco CertifiedNetworkAssociate (CCNA), persuing to be Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP). KLC Consulting is giving FREE Licenses of SMAC2.0Professional Edition to Authors and Trainers.SinceI am a trainer, I got it for free. (check outtheSMAC website: http://www.klcconsulting.net/smac) With SMAC 2.0 I can pre-load MAC Addresses intotheMAC List so I can choose MAC Address I want tospooffrom my list. It saved me a lot of time whendoingdemos and when I go to client sites to dovarioustestings. You said IPConfig is not important, however, allmystudents want to use IPConfig during the demo to prove that MAC Address is spoofed from Windowspointof view. So, here is the question, convince me: Is your software opensource? Is your software going to stay free forever? Do you offer free technical support? (if I everneedit) If not, I am probably going to stick with SMAC2.0where I know the quality is good and I can getfreetech support when I need it. It's probably notabig deal to anyone (and I might be wrong), butwithCISSP behind the SMAC development, it give mejust alittle peace of mind for this type of tools. /s
