From all the research I've done the Zaurus 5?00 comes out as a good buy.
Loads of tools around for it and lots of help getting it going. I'm getting one along with a wireless card and battery extender as well. On Wed, 2005-09-07 at 20:21 -0400, Mark Owen wrote:

The port of linux that they used needs a lot of work to be usable.I disagree. The kernel that comes with the Z works pretty great and the alternative, Openzaurus, has come a long way and works even better. I currently use the 5500 for this very purpose and highly recommend it. As for the battery, the life is great untill you plug in a wireless card. For that, I recommend using an adapter. http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=reviews/batextend
