From all the research I've done the Zaurus 5?00 comes out as a good buy.
Loads of tools around for it and lots of help getting it going.

I'm getting one along with a wireless card and battery extender as well.

I disagree.  The kernel that comes with the Z works pretty great and
the alternative, Openzaurus, has come a long way and works even
better.  I currently use the 5500 for this very purpose and highly
recommend it.

As for the battery, the life is great untill you plug in a wireless
card.  For that, I recommend using an adapter.
