Would you recommend starting at a big 5 firm? A small firm? Fortune 500's? Has anybody heard of any pen-testing firms in St. Louis?
Myself as an example, I took a job with a large company doing all sorts of security things, not specifically auditing or penetration testing. Taking a position like this allowed me to leverage some of my personal skills to my employeers benefit, while gaining the opportunity to learn some of the aspects of security I was less familiar with. I doubt that I would have been able to step right in and be a penetration tester, but I was able to learn the skills and move towards that end.
