Is your bottleneck in approval or implementation/rollout. For Windows critical and security updates we use WSUS to automatically deploy to all workstations when they are available. We used to have a tiered deployment that would require various approvals. After getting more comfortable that it doesn't impact users we have automated this. Servers are scheduled during their regular maintenance window... critical and security related updates are pre-approved. We only hold off on IE and java updates as these will break some core business applications. .b On Jul 7, 2011, at 7:19 AM, k41zen Me <k41zen () me com> wrote:
All, I'm noticing that the security patching process in place is not only slow but getting worse. The latest change requests in place to deploy Adobe patches have been in the "system" for 4 months now and we are still waiting for it to come out the other end. The same can be said for Flash player changes and with CVE2011-2110 staring at me I'm thinking there must be something else than can be done rather than just putting this into the "system" like the others and sit back and wait. I'm wondering what the typical turn around times are for other people. I'm wondering if a different process has been put in place for these types of changes and how much time is typically spent at each stage. Grateful for any insight you can share.
