The only reason I can think of buying an appliance is if money is no barrier
and you do not feel comfortable managing a open server and replacing parts
yourself.

You will get a better bang for your buck by purchasing a open server from
the HCL (http://www.checkpoint.com/services/techsupport/hcl/all.html) and
then installing SecurePlatform and the firewall software on top of it.


The software itself is decent, the pretty GUI that works for the most part
makes it relatively easy to manage a rule base. Although it seems the
software is become bloated which normally means more security holes.
