Blackberry Hardening Recommendations?

I recently had to do some Blackberry incident response, and found a paper from symantec titled: "Attack Surface 
Analysis of Blackberry devices" to be a good read.  Addresses BES and BIS configurations.

What are your recommendations for hardening a Blackberry that is not connected to a BES?  Most of the recommendations 
I've found center on BES policies.
