hey guys

thought i knew my networking basics. wth is this? network setup is one laptop and one standard home router. in nmap i
do a simple discovery with PE echo or even timestamp. i get a reply from each from my router but then i see this
trailing after...question is why??

8) 192.168.0.1 > 192.168.0.16: ICMP echo reply, id 54021, seq 0, length 8
IP (tos 0x0, ttl 128, id 19779, offset 0, flags [none], proto: ICMP (1), length:
 56) 192.168.0.16 > 192.168.0.11: ICMP 192.168.0.16 protocol 1 unreachable, leng
th 36

why the "protocol unreachable"?? btw, this only happens with nmap from a raw socket. a standard ping from console
acheives the norm:

 60) 192.168.0.16 > 192.168.0.1: ICMP echo request, id 1, seq 102, length 40
IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 501, offset 0, flags [none], proto: ICMP (1), length:
0) 192.168.0.1 > 192.168.0.16: ICMP echo reply, id 1, seq 102, length 40

a bug? / mike
