Hi All,

This is my status report *#1 of 13*

I have mentioned the problems which I faced during my work and also their
solutions as it might be helpful for others if they face the same.

*Accomplishments*:

   1. Compiled and Installed Nmap on Linux machine in all possible ways.
*Problems faced*: Got this warning: “config.status: Makefile.in seems to
ignore the --datarootdir setting".Ignored it considering it as a warning
but was unable to build Nmap /“make” in the next step.
*Solution* : It required g++ installation

   2. Installed Nmap on windows using Self installer, and compiled it from
   source code.

* P**roblems faced:* While doing it through "Compilation from source code".
I couldn't svn checkout from the given link.
*Solution*: The reason being my McAfee Security Scan was blocking new
incoming Internet connections. Later on permitted it as a trusted
   connection and it worked fine.

   3. Learnt Lua to a good extent from
   http://www.lua.org/manual/5.2/readme.html and started practicing it.
   4. Started reading the Nmap reference guide as suggested by the mentor.

*Priorities:*

   1. Implement some improvements to dns-ip6-arpa.nse, as describe at
   http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2012/q2/45.
   2. Also consider a move to "fire and forget" logic.
   3. Fixing service detection so it can handle 0-byte captures without
   crashing.
   4. Fixing a segmentation fault in Ncat when scanned with the SSL NSE
   scripts

*Note* : I will be away for this coming week from May 25th and will be back
on June 3rd morning. I will be submitting my status report #2 of 13 on
June 5th . Discussed with Fyodor and took permission for the same.

Cheers,

Sriharsha
