cannot run zenmap

recently installed updated version of nmap on an os x maverick machine, however, cannot open the software. I believe it 
installed properly, as i followed the instructions to the letter. I hope. Anyway when I try to run the pkg I get a  
pop-up that says"Zenmap wants to make changes. type password to allow this" when I do, It just disappears, both the 
pop-up and the bouncing eye at the bottom of the dock. What do I do??????
