Hahahaha, I just saw the guide. The best article is the first one, which Hakin9 apparently published without even reading. And they told me I could post it as a sample of their work. Here it is: http://nmap.org/misc/hakin9-nmap-ebook-ch1.pdf
Uh-oh, it seems that Hakin9 had a change of heart. At first they were very proud to show off their DICKS (DARPA Inference Checking Kludge Scanning) article. When I asked if I could post it, they replied: "Sure! You can post whichever article you'd like. Will you be posting that on your main page?" I guess they expected the security community to be impressed by their DICKS, but instead they faced scorn and ridicule. Now they're so embarrassed by everyone mocking their DICKS that they had their lawyer send me this removal demand: Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2012 17:20:03 +0200 From: Izabela Grotowska <iza.grotowska () gmail com> To: fyodor () insecure org Cc: ewa dudzic <ewa.dudzic () software com pl> Subject: illegal use of copyright Dear Sir, On behalf of Hakin9 Media Sp. z o.o. with its seat in Warsaw (Poland), by a power of attorney given to me, I inform You that the company is one and only publisher of the magazine "Hakin9 Magazine" and has exclusive copyrights to the article entitled Nmap: 'The Internet Considered Harmful - DARPA Inference Cheking Kludge Scanning', written by Mr. Yarochkin Fyodor. Therefore, please remove this article from website under the following address: http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2012/q3/1050 as it is distributed without any legal basis and even permission of the publisher. In case of failure to comply with this request, the Company will be forced to take a legal way. Regards, Izabela Grotowska legal adviser Warsaw, Wysowska 13 Str, 02-682 Warsaw (Poland) I don't know how long I can hold out against Hakin9's legal department, especially if they're "forced to take a legal way". Since this may be your last chance to see their DICKS, here's the link again: http://nmap.org/misc/hakin9-nmap-ebook-ch1.pdf Interestingly, the legal threat wasn't the only email that Hakin9 sent me today. They also want me to write an article (see the solicitation below). Anyone have good ideas for what I should submit? Maybe a paper on the Continuously Updating Nmap Technology System. :) Cheers, Fyodor PS: Here is the article submission spam: Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2012 12:52:25 +0200 From: Anna Medrzecka <anna.medrzecka () software com pl> To: fyodor () insecure org Subject: cooperation with hakin9 magazine Dear Gordon Lyon, I write on behalf Hakin9 magazine (hakin9.org) and I would like to propose you cooperation.
