We figured out, why the "--enable-static" flag failed in generating a
usable Makefile.

Makefile
-----------------------
STATIC =
LDFLAGS = -Wl,-E  -Lnbase -Lnsock/src/ $(DBGFLAGS) $(STATIC)

The "STATIC" param is empty.
It is important, that the linker gets the flag as well.

The following commands did the job.

./configure --enable-static LDFLAGS="-static"
make
