nmap on OsX10.7.3 failure to startup

I need nmap on my computer because of some oddities with a LAN network, security hole. 
I am running  MacOSX 10.7.3, and used to be able to run nmap without any problems. Now, nmap fails to launch.
I read all the documentation and still can't get it working.  nmap prompts for pswrd and then shuts off. 

?? Any ideas?
