Nmap stable branch

Hi,

Is there an Nmap stable branch, perhaps post-5.00 at this time, in the
SVN repository or otherwise? I'd expect it to contain only important
post-release fixes for distros to pull for their packages. The version
number should probably be adjusted to include a "patchlevel", like
5.00.1 (or 5.00.001 if you prefer) - projects such as bash and VIM do it
this way.

Also, what branch was used for the 5.00 release? I've just checked out
from SVN using the basic instructions at
http://nmap.org/book/install.html#inst-svn and what I got calls itself
4.90RC2 in nmap/docs/nmap.usage.txt (maybe in other places as well),
whereas the 5.00 release has 5.00 in that file indeed. Yet the version
I checked out is otherwise newer code in many places (and it is a
development rather than a stable branch).
