Nmap feature freeze next week!

Hi all!  It has been more than 8 months since our last stable Nmap
release (4.76 in 8/08) and 4.85BETA9 is approaching double digits in
the beta release number.  So I'd say we're due for a stable release
ASAP!  But when you read through the hundreds of changes since 4.76 at
http://nmap.org/changelog.html, you realize that there are some
DRAMATIC improvements since that release!  So we will need a period to
stabilize the release and ensure that it is truly great.  We don't
want to announce it to the world just to embarrass ourselves with some
stupid bug!  Still, I'd like the stable version to be out within a
month from today, and preferably even sooner.

The first step is to freeze the feature set for the new release.  So
if there are any changes you want in the next big release, now is your
chance to speak up and send patches!  The new feature window will be
closing Friday night of next week (5/22) at 11:59PM Pacific Daylight
Time.  That give you almost a week to polish up and submit those
patches!  The patches don't have to be integrated by then, but at
least must be submitted.  After that point, we only plan to integrate
new patches if they are bug fixes, and we'll also finish the features
described at (http://nmap.org/svn/docs/TODO), but only down to the
"FEATURES FOR NEXT STABLE VERSION" line.

Now is also a good time to get to testing BETA9 or the latest SVN
version!  The sooner we can identify and fix any bugs, the sooner we
can do the release!  This will be a really great one!
