Hi walnut, By default nmap will attempt to look up the hostnames associated with the IPs you scan. If you don't have DNS servers the easiest fix is probably to follow kx's advice and add -n to the command line. Alternatively, you could configure a local DNS server or put the IPs and hostnames into the file /etc/hosts. Good luck, Doug On Tue, Mar 21, 2006 at 09:02:53PM -0500 or thereabouts, kx wrote:
This might help as well: -n (No DNS resolution) Tells Nmap to never do reverse DNS resolution on the active IP addresses it finds. Since DNS is often slow, this speeds things up. If you aren't, it might be possible that there is a bug in Nmap which tries to access DNS servers even when it doesn't have to. walnut wrote:Hi. I have complied Nmap4.01 successfully. Can you give me some advice on the error mesg?
