The reason the tsocks proxy isn't working for you, most likely, is because
the proxy is hooking into the SOCK_STREAM socket type used by nmap for
basic port scanning, and not the raw packet interface used by nmap when
running as root.

Doing a connect() scan, for example, should(!) work.
