-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- I have just released 3.59ALPHA5, and feel that the new architecture is starting to stabilize. If you've been afraid to try it so far, now may be a good time to jump in. I'm hoping to get the kinks worked out so that I can release it by September 1 (next Wednesday), which is Nmap's 7th birthday. If you do any benchmarking of 3.59A5 against 3.55, please let me know the results. I've been doing many tests during the last few days, and have made many improvements in A5, but you guys have access to a much wider variety of networks than I do. Here are the changes since A4: o Fixed a major timing bug that I introduced in ALPHA4. The bug tends to affect scans against multiple, filtered hosts. o Improved timing algorithms based on benchmark results against a diverse set of networks. o Documented the --osscan_limit option, which saves time by skipping OS detection if at least one open and one closed port are not found on the remote hosts. OS detection is much less reliable against such hosts anyway, and skipping it can save some time. o Fixed an assertion failure (!probes_outstanding.empty()) reported by Bill Petersen (bill.petersen(a)alcatel.com). o Fixed a bug that caused the source host (localhost) to be skipped when scanning a network that includes the host itself (at least on Linux). o Fixed Solaris 10 detection by the build system, thanks to a patch by Tom Duffy (tduffy(a)sun.com). o Improved Windows support when using the MingW compiler thanks to a patch from Gisle Vanem (giva(a)bgnett.no).
