FW: failed pings in nmapwin

Hi. I apologize for bothering you, but I cannot seem to get NMap to work under Windows XP Pro at all. I have used it
successfully in the past, but on this machine it simply won’t work. I have tried it with the GUI (v 1.3.1) and also
downloaded the command-line version (v 3.48), but it keeps indicating that hosts are not reachable, even though they
are on my local subnet and I can ping them using Window’s ping utility.

In other words, I can ping the hosts, but NMap cannot “find” them. I have disabled all interfaces other than my
Ethernet Interface (I have a SonicWall VPN Client, a Cisco VPN Client, and a Cisco Wireless Interface as well as a 1394
interface), but this didn’t change anything, either. Under the NMapWin “List Interfaces” button I see the following:

Available interfaces:
Name Raw send Raw recieve IP
loopback0 SOCK_RAW SOCK_RAW 127.0.0.1
eth0 SOCK_RAW winpcap 10.200.10.73

Are there any techniques I can use to troubleshoot this? The Event Viewer doesn’t show anything abnormal.

Here is the output from ping and command-line nmap:

C:\>ping 10.200.10.2

Pinging 10.200.10.2 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 10.200.10.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Reply from 10.200.10.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Reply from 10.200.10.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Reply from 10.200.10.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 10.200.10.2:

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

C:\>

C:\Program Files\NMapWinCommandLine\nmap-3.48>nmap -sS -PT -PI -O -T 3 10.200.10.2

Starting nmap 3.48 ( http://www.insecure.org/nmap ) at 2004-01-07 15:31 Eastern Standard Time

Note: Host seems down. If it is really up, but blocking our ping probes, try -P0

Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (0 hosts up) scanned in 12.177 seconds

C:\Program Files\NMapWinCommandLine\nmap-3.48>

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Mike Klapheke
