Hi, I am new to the list, so sorry if my comments have already been made. The point below, about formats changing could be got around by parsing xml. Nmap can output in xml, which should mean that regardless of what the program itself is doing, the output should always be accessible in the same way. I dont know if there are any xml api's for perl, but I guess there probably are. Has anyone implimented an interface to java? I could run nmap in the same way as Max is from Perl, and parse xml output - but is there a tidier way, such as a native interface - already written? Regards Nikk Anderson ----Original Message----- From: Max [mailto:musitechman () earthlink net] Sent: 13 November 2001 10:59 To: nmap-hackers () insecure org Subject: Perl module wrappers for nmap - snip - The big problem with doing things this way is, of course, that if options change or the default output and messaging changes there are several methods that will need to be re-written to support the changes ... that and of course the overhead of having to open a pipe to nmap in order to capture the output from it.
