Recomputed as a 5.9. Its in the Parkfield area which is fairly remote and one of the most studied segments of the San Andreas fault. http://quake.usgs.gov/research/parkfield/index.html http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/Parkfield.htm As far as Internet access, there is very little. I don't think even DSL access is available in Parkfield.
