We have ideas for hacking something up with a linux box, but I'd prefer
something a little more designed for the task.


Asterisk running the Digium Wildcard's is very nice.  I have one of
those set up as a 'test' box.. there is a POTS number, but from there it
gets translated into SIP and connects to my box.

www.asterisk.org might be of some interest.
