Ugh! They better at least send a notice to the customer. We have customers
who don't pay for their domain names and wonder why it isn't working --
being able to see a Domain Status: On Hold gave us the answer. We've lost
that ability?

Yes and no. You can still get this information by doing a "dig" for the
domain on one of the root servers.
