error connecting to mysql via db_connect

Hi all after installing mysql gem whenever I try to connect to mysql db I
receive this error:

msf > db_connect root:pass@127.0.0.1 <root%3Apass@127.0.0.1>

Error while running command db_connect: Failed to connect to the database:
Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111)

same error issued using db_create.
