uneven results with ms09_002_memory_corruption

Using the ms09_002_memory_corruption module on identical machines 
produces different results.

Both are Windows XP professional with service pack 3
Both are running the identical version of IE -- 7.0.5730.13 update version:0

Works on one and not the other.

What might account for this?
