Nissan offers forensics help to Williamson sheriff

FRANKLIN -- Up to five Nissan North America information security employees 
could also do double duty as reserve sheriff’s deputies, assisting 
investigators on forensics cases as part of a first-ever arrangement 
between the automaker and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department.

Nissan information security employees would collect, examine and preserve 
electronic evidence from computers, cellphones, tablets and other devices 
needed for department investigations. If need be, according to the 
agreement, they might also give expert testimony in court cases and 
accompany sheriff’s department officers to serve warrants involving 
electronic devices.

With Nissan offering to pay the costs of the program — even agreeing to 
allow its forensics employees to work up to 20 hours a month on county 
investigations, though the final amount of time is dependent on Nissan — 
Williamson County gains a forensics investigation team without having to 
spend its money to get one.

The deal, finalized earlier this month by county officials, deepens the 
relationship between Franklin-based Nissan and Williamson County by 
extending the company’s resources into helping county law enforcement 
officers complete investigations.
