'Hacked accounts; we're worried'

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric) is gravely concerned over a security breach that led to personal bank card details being leaked and personal accounts being hacked, officials said on Monday.

The breach occurred at a company that handles online transactions.

It is unclear exactly how many cardholders' details were accessed.

Sabric's Kalyani Pillay said such security breaches in the banking sector were not common in South Africa.
