A Tempe college student has been arrested by FBI agents and accused of hacking into Sony Pictures Entertainment’s computer systems, federal officials say.

Cody Kretsinger, 23, a University of Advancing Technology student, was arrested Thursday without incident, authorities said.

An indictment, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, charges Kretsinger with conspiracy and the unauthorized impairment of a protected computer. That indictment was unsealed after his arrest.

He appeared before a federal magistrate in U.S. District Court in Phoenix on Thursday afternoon and was released without bail. The District Court has allowed Kretsinger to use a computer for work and school only.

Kretsinger is suspected of being a member, or former member, of LulzSec, a group that has claimed responsibility for compromising the computer systems of Sony Pictures Entertainment from approximately May 27 through June 2.
