His resignation came hours after ex-News International chief Rebekah Brooks was arrested over allegations of corruption and phone hacking.
Sir Paul, 57, stood down three days after Mr Wallis was arrested over Scotland Yard's phone-hacking inquiry.
It then emerged the Met had secretly employed Mr Wallis, 60, as a PR consultant after he left the Sunday paper in 2009.
