Minecode execs face prison terms for computer intrusion

According to the government, president and CEO Pradyumna Samal and Sandeep Verma, a project manager, face up to one year in prison on each count after Bellevue-based Minecode and online wine supplier Vinado Inc. got into a dispute in the fall of 2006. The government said that Vinado had hired Minecode to design some features for the wine seller's website, including a “virtual gift shop.” After the dispute, authorities said that Samal directed Verma to disable the gift shop, causing a $5,000 loss to Vinado. In January 2007, Samal went further, the government said, deleting Vinado’s website, email server and database, causing $115,000 in damage. The government said Samal and Minecode are charged with, and have pleaded guilty to, two counts of computer intrusion and Verma has been charged with, and pleaded guilty to, one count of computer intrusion.
