LOS ANGELES - A former network administrator for a pair of airport
transportation companies was arrested for allegedly hacking into a
computer system and eliminating the customer database, authorities
said.

Alan Giang Tran, 28, of Fountain Valley was arrested Thursday after a
criminal complaint was filed in federal court against him earlier in
the week. The complaint accuses Tran of intentionally causing damage
to a protected computer and recklessly causing damage by intentionally
accessing a protected computer.

Tran was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned
March 17. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in federal prison.

Authorities said Tran wiped out critical data, including a customer
database, the companies' Web site and other records over a two-week
period in December and January. Passwords on the computer server were
changed and software applications were deleted. Other employees were
unable to use their computers, which meant that Airline Coach Service
and Sky Limousine were unable to dispatch drivers to pick up clients,
authorities said. The companies lost thousands of dollars in business
because of the computer problems.

Federal investigators searched Tran's home last week and found several
computers, a folder marked "retaliation" and information about the
companies' computer systems.
