SAN FERNANDO, Calif. (AP) - A former employee of a firm that makes
guidance systems for the Defense Department was sentenced Tuesday to
16 months in state prison for hacking into the company's computer
system and shutting it down for 24 hours.

Armen Oganesyan, 26, also was ordered by San Fernando Superior Court
Judge Robert Schuit to pay $50,000 in restitution.

Oganesyan pleaded no contest in October to one count of computer
access. He also admitted to all special enhancements, including
causing property damage in excess of $150,000 and a special
enhancement that restricts probation and future computer access, said
Deputy District Attorney Jonathan P. Fairtlough.

Oganesyan was employed by H.R. Textron, a Valencia-based Department of
Defense contractor. He admitted hacking into the computer a month
after losing his job in February 2000 and shutting the system down for
a 24-hour period. Four separate locations -- two sites in Valencia,
one in Los Angeles' Pacoima section and one in Ohio -- were affected.

A six-month investigation led to Oganesyan's arrest in October 2000.
The case was one of the first to by filed by the Southern California
Regional High Tech Task Force.
