LOSER LOVER JAILED FOR HACKING PAY FILES

By DEVLIN BARRETT
March 28, 2002

A lovelorn computer hacker was hit with an 18-month jail sentence for
breaking into his ex-firm's top-secret salary files and giving the
woman who rejected him a $140,000 upgrade in pay. Washington Leung has
pleaded guilty to breaking into the computer system at the Manhattan
insurance company Marsh, Inc.

Leung was fired in October 2000 after a co-worker complained of
harassment.

The woman told her bosses the abuse began after she rejected his
romantic overtures.

After he was fired, Leung swiped salary files and altered the
unidentified woman's records to boost her annual pay by $40,000 and
give her a bonus of $100,000.

He then sent an e-mail to top management at the firm suggesting the
woman was involved in the theft of the confidential payroll numbers,
according to court papers.

Manhattan federal judge Richard Casey ordered Leung to
serve 18 months and pay $91,814 in restitution.
