BOSTON (AP) A 15-year-old Connecticut boy charged with hacking into
the U.S. Air Force's computer system was sentenced to two years of
probation Friday, during which time he cannot use a computer without
adult supervision.

The teen-ager, who was 13 at the time of the incident in March 2000,
must also repay $2,000 to the U.S. government, Attorney General Thomas
Reilly said. The probation also requires that he maintain a passing
average at school.

The boy's name has not been released because he is a juvenile.
Officials have refused to disclose his hometown for fear of making him
a hero among hackers.

The teen-ager allegedly made his way into the system through a secure
connection between the Air Force and a U.S. Department of
Transportation computer at the John A. Volpe National Transportation
Systems Center in Cambridge.
