New ETSI draft standard for cert authorities issuing digital certificates

In light of the IETF's recent activities, the following may be
of interest.  Its from ETSI, http://www.etsi.org, the European
Telecommunications Standards Institute, a not-for-profit
organization that produces voluntary standards which the ETSI
hopes will be adopted by the EC as the technical base for
Directives or Regulations. The ETSI's stated mission is
"to produce the telecommunications standards that will be
 used for decades to come throughout Europe and beyond."

Policy Requirement for certification authorities issuing
qualified certificates

"The purpose of this standard is to specify policy requirements
 on the operation and management of certification authorities
 issuing Qualified Certificates as laid down in the European
 Directive on Electronic Signatures (1999/93/EC). The new draft
 has been sent for ETSI SEC approval by 6 December 2000."

The ETSI SEC Working Group (Electronic Signatures and
Infrastructures standardization within ETSI) recently issued a
