An excerpt of an editorial by James Lileks for Newhouse News Service,
as appeared in the Roanoke (VA) Times, May 12.

"ILOVEYOU virus is a taste of worse problems to come"

...
"The good news is that they found the guy. Right. But which is
more frightening: that one guy can slow the world's
blonde-joke-distribution networks for a day, or that the authorities
can use computers to find his home address in eight hours?
If they know where he is, they know where you are too.
If it came to pass that the authorities knew where we were at
every moment of every day, we'd applaud the hacker who clapped a lens
cap over Big Brother's eye. Keep that in mind when you shake your fist
at virus writers. Some day we might need these guys.
But not today, and certainly not Mr. ILOVEYOU, who just wanted
to steal some passwords and get free internet service."
