A European Internet security firm is setting its sights on the U.S.
market.

VIGILANTe.com recently moved its corporate headquarters here in an
effort to tap opportunities in the United States, said Ulf Munkedal,
the company's chief executive and president.

"The Internet pulse is beating here in the U.S.," he said, adding,
"Internet security is becoming a prerequisite to doing business on the
Internet."

The firm plans to sell its flagship product, SecureScan, through the
channel. SecureScan is an automated, Internet-based service that
assesses the security of an organization's Web site by redundantly
testing routers, Web servers, mail servers, FTP servers, application
servers and other IP network devices. It then issues a report that
cites all vulnerable areas and suggests fixes.

VIGILANTe.com touts the service, which is updated weekly, as a more
efficient and cost-effective way for organizations to receive ongoing
security assessments compared to the cost of hiring a security
consultant or training in-house staff.

Munkedal said the company started as a security consultancy in Europe
three years ago and then moved into automated security with
SecureScan, which uses patented software. "We are building services in
the niche of infinite security services," he said.

Channel partners can sell SecureScan either as a one-time penetration
test or as an ongoing, subscription-based service, said Rich Sullivan,
director of channel sales. Cost of the service is priced per IP
address; the suggested retail price for a one-time test is $750.
Customers are offered discounts of 40 percent to 50 percent for a
subscription.

Sullivan added that the product's knowledge base of network
vulnerabilities expands continuously. "It's like 'The Blob.' It keeps
growing," he said.
