The main lesson to draw from the wireless sector’s development over the past three decades—including American leadership in 4G—is that the market, not government, is best positioned to drive innovation and investment. What government can and should do is to push spectrum into the commercial marketplace and set rules that encourage the private sector to develop and deploy next-generation infrastructure. Any federal effort to construct a nationalized 5G network would be a costly and counterproductive distraction from the policies we need to help the United States win the 5G future. http://reason.com/blog/2018/01/29/fcc-chair-throws-water-on-crazy-plan-for From: Sean Donelan <sean.m.donelan () gmail com> <sean.m.donelan () gmail com> Reply: cybertelecom-l () googlegroups com <cybertelecom-l () googlegroups com> <cybertelecom-l () googlegroups com> Date: January 28, 2018 at 5:46:25 PM To: cybertelecom-l <cybertelecom-l () googlegroups com> <cybertelecom-l () googlegroups com> Subject: [Cybertelecom-l] Federal takeover of 5G wireless network raises significant concerns If you thought municipalities building broadband networks was a great idea, you are going to love this even more. I'm not opposed to municipal broadband in all cases, just most of the time their business cases are fantasies and lose money. https://www.axios.com/nationalizing-5g-network-raises-a-number-of-concerns-1517168611-4c95d53f-7013-42b9-bcdf-9ef7bbdfde14.html "A Trump administration proposal to nationalize a portion of the nation’s wireless network in order to combat threats from China in 5G raises many technical, logistical and political concerns, including a fierce debate over the proper role of government in business. The bottom line: The proposal calls for aggressive government involvement in the private wireless market, representing a significant shift in U.S. industrial policy that would hugely disrupt the business plans of America's largest telecom and technology companies." -- Cybertelecom is an educational not-for-profit project focused on Federal Internet law and policy. http://secure-web.cisco.com/1tKXvLNdZBq-f0rCJkZQKEFAMcuQJnLV4y17l74T-i9PjUrVN9wb1u3N3UUwhS9m4qF0-3Vd5qn_BE4aw9uGKnAFmXnL9VPnQJ4IkVr30pOC9GjiIso6Qv13eDpygx1sJrlOldCMvvUAQRyYBjInhFBeQapFL-W6ASMXGNtcBycwCRMVjNAROmXNBlFbMdNVIKVftjnYo0oqgEhb-MTzUWrDiodjuxB3_TtgMwPcF0YMvmi9Frj-hgKkr0WDu-qH6Y0Z4Zn_tygyLGN5YqSTKAyvHCTRimosS6bNV7oEL1Zwqyt1kPF_9StK1O5b5Eu0TbqTSwyP_WYlQuTUv-xSBf0ppGqvSsmFqXaX3Fq34FTLrUOMehQKTrnOezfpHX4jAGrHGPXcM9nxK9zZ-LlZnNXGXbUsOakxpUWc9C0aoP7r6eeNuBtJ-mdw2INhdYRiOS-DfCxhWfZEwWYchevrVWA/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cybertelecom.org Participants in Cybertelecom-l are asked to play nicely with the other children. http://secure-web.cisco.com/1OQF0nCVdlS8BvkFG9Citpv3HzKPtAO5mnVMkUHlWz2m_Usb-P50iuEX4jQKaNlwyuOObVUqpvT345kniVsMd7QA_JteftAKJew5e5hGca8DR938Z3T4fRIyCp_ITJEyuyq-vcYE5D_xUEmsd0b9lWLDy9E5NNnVrWh0aZGXCZz8LZ6Rdm3HLfk9O_m-9WiWOn8VrWMFKcbbbvN6rJ2bL9233LDOLg8R6kaYq12qmQQOUKK5zQVcsOnhpfEDKbIa5sQZskRt6zHpe5wtVGl4Cskp67bZtvC-0mS0mOgFzxvOhxirOmPWgzGjXpbYIV1nuIm9mjpdjYq8wyFxqonGXSSwbb8aUHp5-rTt6ZLh51AtiopyR4-Bj1sorFTmesr62VPGzgUQKqESppJea-GgzQkcan2Qhy-K0o-dF_3Jyb3_zOww30cEiH6pwgq0udTXaqHFq3AvLwjJN1waLWeCwMg/http%3A%2F%2Fcybertelecom.org%2Fcybert.htm#aup <http://secure-web.cisco.com/1PBxIaKeRk1EFX6jwZzLBJMjY3do_QZy65FnGn20fu0E3Wvw9OWEG2AwAkmfj3Sds61maMC5oZmM5V8S2HIUAX3Pxk_H-MnwY9VstgBOr3iwVwNtILjEJ1-2fA6aUkp9ffQroEX2d_AF_rw2WhG-HfYzyvh8B6LTec5x5ip4oJQGPxUnQbCRoZNPJzFh4P33uMQvXLMSD6iSRblqbnAPDYC_VhvSPK-djK7YFChabbVWHgkDiXhpxUSCFUs1D0uo8NWDb3CsHFbyJVUeRKNvzMXp39kN3pl2ZA9_jLwaiUfxlY_zFrK_ZuHDRI34EEn0-E-MPX6MXSKWHx1zhwMuHBz8zVkONeSay7OzPAYfKmfWM8tBcKL-dgOl-qmqR1-n1I5hsCAONBvjtrzzOyWR95paboVa9Q7NGstnzkP8Up6VQ2q2cwJCH9CN5Q8S3Pk_XlYXnvEMS_3CLhDSFNbQDAQ/http%3A%2F%2Fcybertelecom.org%2Fcybert.htm%23aup> --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cybertelecom-l" group.
