FCC Decision To: Carl () crossfiremedia com Hi Carl, The U.S. Court of Appeal's reversal of the FCC’s attempts to regulate how Comcast manages its network, may taint the National Broadband Policy and calls to question the FCC's jurisdiction. Join us for an audiocast titled “FCC vs. Comcast: The Roadblock Ahead" May 25th at 12 :00 noon EDT. I have assembled a group of highly astute participants to address the FCC's future role in governing the Internet, specifically in light of this recent court reversal. Audiocast Participants include: Bram Cohen, CTO and Inventor of Bit Torrent. Bram represents the good of peer to peer communication, a system of transmission linked directly to the application layer. The rationale from the FCC seems to leave open a big question about how P2P will be viewed. Dave Farber, former CTO of the FCC. Dave, considered by many to be the grandfather of the Internet, has history in distributed computing. Today, Dave runs an "Interesting People" mailing list that features some of the most noteworthy people in the communications industry while also teaching at Carnegie Mellon. He has been a voice of reasoned thinking when discussions get strident and people want to bring back old rules that are tired and out of place. Hank Hultquist, Vice President of Federal Regulatory Affairs, AT&T, has been working for years to bring effective change to the PSTN, he understands that the regulatory rules applied in the last century are hurting our attempts to bring the network of the future to this century. Hank represents AT&T at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on a number of issues including broadband and Internet policy, video and media policy, intercarrier compensation, and universal service. Glenn Richards, Partner, Pillsbury Law and Executive Director of The VON Coalition, a group of wireless, wireline and over the top operators all promoting the cause of the Internet. The Coalition has been dealing with the confusion of old rules trying to be applied by jurisdictions in the US and Europe. Glenn represents VoIP companies, carriers, equipment manufacturers, and trade associations in transactional and litigation matters, and before the Federal Communications Commission, state public utility commissions and the International Telecommunication Union. I will be moderating and managing the flow of the audiocast, without guiding the content. You can join the call yourself by filling out this form and dialing in on the 25th. I look forward to your participation on the 25th. Don't forget to register early to receive your dial in instructions.
