Subject: Cell phone jamming test planned at Maryland prison

Dave,

On January 6 the FCC received a request from CellAntenna Corporation for Special Temporary Authority to conduct a “15 minute research exp eriment” of cell phone “denial” technology on January 8 at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup, Maryland. The supportin g exhibit illuminates a few of the coexistence issues facing such te chnology.

Here is a link to the application:

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/els/reports/STA_Print.cfm?mode=current&application_seq=43659&RequestTimeout=1000

and supporting exhibit:

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/els/GetAtt.html?id=103683&x=.

The supporting exhibit notes that “While the Commission reviews this Application, CellAntenna will work with the major cellular carriers in the area of the Jessup facility to identify suitable spectrum fo r use in the demonstration to avoid interference with or disruption to commercial and other operations, including the ability of the car riers’ subscribers in and around the Jessup facility to transmit and receive calls and messages. CellAntenna will supplement the Applica tion to reflect the extent to which the carriers consent to the STA .”

So far, I see no expressions of consent.

Best regards,

Steve Crowley
