We've been trying to replicate the book-reading experience since Sony  
introduced the Bookman in 1991.  In 1996, I wrote about the Lazerbook,  
a device that would print books at home on reusable paper.

The eBook concept goes back to the 1991 Sony Bookman and 1990 Data  
Discman.

But after 1500 years, the codex is amazingly live and well.
