I wonder if the incredible collective wisdom of IP can figure out how much actual danger that NW flight would have been
in had that “bomb” actually gone off. SMALL amount of explosive, near his body, seems his own flesh and blood would
absorb much of the blast. If he was right up against the fuselage, would such as bomb explode outward or inward (into
his body)?

We know from actual real world circumstance that an airliner can experience near catastrophic structural failure (Aloha
Airlines, Flt. 243, a Boeing 737-200, had a quarter of fuselage torn off, from the top, and successfully landed with
only one fatality; http://www.aloha.net/~icarus/243pg2.htm) and still be flyable.

I seriously doubt the type of bomb this guy had would have “blown up the plane” as all the headlines are saying. And
before anyone jumps in here and references the small amount of explosive (334 grams I think is what has been reported)
to take down the Lockerbie flight, I don’t believe we actually know that for certain.

Anyway, I think it would be an interesting “investigation.” If I were still reporting, it’s the type of “second day”
story I’d do while others were still bitching about not being able to pee for the last hour of the flight.
