Hello Dave.

For IP if you wish.

Two thoughts on social networking... beyond my amazement of this cataclysmic game changer in interpersonal relationships. I [reluctantly] admit to know otherwise seemingly "normal" people who live on Facebook. It is there where they essentially aggregate their lives. Including the active communication with their spouses and children.

I chose my words with purpose. I "know" them rather than have them as friends. Real or pathetically imagined ones.

First a definition - not original but apropos.: More often than not, social networking communities are a pathetic attempt to fulfill the needs of the inter-socially challenged. People fearful of face- to-face communication.'

Second.... In our agency business, another agency head asked us to pre-pay for some media we were securing for a client. Of course, we said a very resounding NO to that young man, who was new to us and we had never heard of him. They asked because "[they] needed the money now" rather then in due course of business. One of my people gave me some background on him, which included a significant presence on Facebook.

In a moment of great lucidity and relying on our very significant presence in and knowledge of the online space, I suggested to my guy that the other "dude" reach out to his 698 friends and hit them up for a loan. Just before calling on family, both those who like and hate him.

The truth, Dave, is that I have only one issue with Facebook: I did not invent it!

Best regards.

Steve.

Dr Farber,

I'm not certain the accounts are even deleted correctly. A colleague recently wrote about his experiences with Facebook and in order to check some facts, re-created a Facebook account (after deleting it). The article is a great read, but the last line it the real kicker.
