Dave,

I've just (re?)read Ray Bradbury's short story "The Flying Machine".   
It relates a tale of Emperor Yuan, who held his throne by the Great  
Wall of China in 400 AD, ruling over a prosperous and happy kingdom.   
One morning a servant reports to him a miracle -- a man is flying! The  
Emperor gazes at the miracle, flying high over the Great Wall.  The  
story tells what the Emperor did in response to this miracle in order  
to preserve the tranquility and prosperity of his kingdom.

Change the time to the present, change the miraculous technology, and  
change the Emperor's name to Emperor Mpaa Riaa, and this is timely and  
fresh story for our time.
